About Troop 113 |
Troop 113 meets on Mondays from 7:00 - 8:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall (in the basement) of the Smoky Hill United Methodist Church (19491 E. Smoky Hill Road in Aurora - the middle church of the 3 churches just west of the King Soopers). Regular troop meetings include opening and closing ceremonies, skill instruction, games, words of wisdom, and other fun activities. One meeting a month - the patrol meeting - the patrols plan their parts in the coming month's meetings and activities, and also work on advancement. The Patrol Leaders Council, or PLC meets one Sunday a month (before the troop committee meeting), allowing the troop officers to plan the activities for the following month, and review the activities of the previous month.
You are welcome to visit us! It's generally best to visit on a troop meeting night, but a patrol meeting night would be a second choice. Check our calendar to find an appropriate night. Please email us to let us know how many of you will be visiting, and what date you'd like to visit the troop.
Troop 113 is committed to keeping the OUTING in Scouting. An outdoor activity - almost always a camping trip - is planned for every month of the year (in February, we have a Ski Trip in place of a campout...). The troop spends a week at summer camp every summer, typically alternating between in-state summer camps, such as those of the Denver Area Council (Camp Dobbins or Dietler), one year and another council's summer camp (typically out-of-state) the following year. In 1999 we spent a week at Camp Dietler; in 2000 we spent a week at Camp Buffalo Bill - located 10 miles east of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, and in 2001 we spent a week at Camp Alexander, near Florissant and Lake George. In 2002 we attended Bear Lake Aquatics Camp in Utah. In 2003 returned to Camp Alexander (and won the Iron Man competition!), and in 2004, we attended Camp Lewis & Clark in South Dakota. In 2005, we attended Camp Dobbins at Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch. In 2006 we returned to Camp Alexander for their 60th anniversary. In 2007, we returned to Bear Lake Aquatics Camp, and in 2008, we will return to Camp Dietler. By varying the summer camp locations, there is always something new for a scout to experience!
Older Scouts can participate in high adventure activities geared for
teens. They have
been canoeing at Boundary Waters (in Minnesota & Canada) and backpacking
at Philmont (in New Mexico), as well as engaging in various high-adventure
activities here in Colorado. We also had several scouts attend the National
Jamboree in Virginia in 2001, and 2005. In 2006 we returned to Boundary
Waters, and in 2007 we were back at Philmont.
In 2009, we have another Philmont trek planned, and Crew 113 is going to Sea
Base in Florida.
If you're a Webelos den and you'd like to accompany us on
one of our outings, please email
us to make arrangements! We typically have Webelos attend the District
Camporee in September, and the Webelos Winter Event in December. However,
we have also had Webelos scouts and parents attend our
winter trip to Camp Tahosa (in December). We will be having an open house
on Monday, October 30, 2006. Check our calendar
to find an activity that you'd like to attend!
